From raccoons to ants, many creatures try to live in human homes. Unfortunately, we cannot safely accommodate them.

You may think of alcohol as being good for a party. However, did you know that it can also be effective at eliminating pests? Surprising isn’t it? Pouring some beer into the soil of your garden will ward of snails and slugs and keep bugs from eating up your plants. A beer can that has Vaseline near its lip can also trap bugs.

When you are trying to get your housefly infestation under control, remember the good old fashioned methods. Sticky tape and fly swatters help deplete the population. They also don’t contain harmful chemicals. Read all safety precautions before applying pesticides in your home to protect the health of your family and pets.

If you have been unable to make progress against a pest infestation, it might be because you are applying pesticide improperly. If you only spray your garden, the bugs are probably seeking refuge into your home. This means you need to use pesticide outside and inside your home simultaneously.

Use diatomacious earth to rid your home of roaches. Sprinkle it where you have seen cockroaches, behind your furniture and inside your cupboards. You can use diatomaceous earth; it will not hurt humans. The small particles can kill insects in a couple of days because it eats through their exoskeletons. You might see a temporary population surge before they start to die.

If you have crevices and cracks located in your home, make sure that you seal them off as soon as you can. Pests can get into your home through these cracks. The best fix for this is to seal these entrances off so they can not re-enter.

Is your home infested with ants? Use a mix of borax and sugar to eradicate them. Sugar attracts them while the borax kills them. Get a jar, and mix borax and sugar in equal quantities. Put holes in your lid, and then sprinkle it along your home’s foundation.

Get rid of clutter, and you get rid of the pests. Although catch-all spots are convenient, they are a bad idea. If you are suffering from a bug infestation, remove the clutter to make you home inhospitable.

Use steel wool to fill any rodent holes. Even though mice can chew through quite a few things, these aren’t able to be chewed with their teeth. Seal any opening that is over a half inch in diameter. Small pests can squeeze through these tiny openings.

Hairspray can be used to kill flying insects. Hairspray doesn’t harm you or any pets you have, but it kills the insects. The pests will become sticky with the hairspray and won’t be able to get to water or food. This is also great to kill bees with.

Your recycling might be a source of attraction for pests. Any recycled materials should be kept outside of the house. If this is not doable, then rinse everything you put in your inside bin. When getting rid of your garbage, use sealed recycling containers to ward off pests.

Eliminate mosquito habitat to eliminate mosquitoes. If you notice any standing water, make sure you drain it. Mosquitoes can breed in places that have water, like food cans or anything that can hold a little water.

Do you have a problem with bird poop on your windows? If so, then you need to discover where birds are landing, and prevent them from doing so in the future. If they are roosting on the tree limb, cut this limb back. If the bird enjoys landing on a ledge, then put in spikes so that their ability to comfortably land is eliminated.

When using any chemicals, especially pesticides, read the manufacturer’s instructions closely. Although you may believe that applying more of the product will yield greater results, it simply is not true. It could be dangerous to people and animals that are around it.

If pests keep reappearing after you thought you fixed everything, you better keep looking. Secondhand stores are great for finding bargains, but you don’t know the history of these items, and they can harbor unwanted guests. Anything you bring into your house should be checked out thoroughly.

One way to kill hornets, bees, and wasps near your home is using hairspray. The hairspray kills the insects, and the residual odor repels new ones from emerging.

The first step to fixing your pest problem is to determine the point of entry they are using. They may be getting in spaces around the windows or you may be carrying them in yourself. When you know where the insects are coming from, you can stop them from entering.

Extinguishing pest infestations is not always easy, but you should be prepared to do that now. This will take some effort from your end, of course. Take the techniques you’ve learned here and get started cleaning up as soon as possible.
